About The White Lion

The White Lion Inn has always been at the heart of village life.

The pub is over 265 years old and was first serviced by Russell’s Exeter to London wagons in 1760 and was passed on or sold to various local families before passing to Palmers Brewery in the late 1880’s.

Our community run pub opened on Friday 29 April 2022 after a massively successful fundraising campaign.

The Palmers pub had been closed since the summer of 2021 but, thanks to the hard work of the steering committee, the enthusiasm of local people and the brewery, the White Lion is once again the beating heart of our vibrant village.

The committee was led by David Leader, who championed village unity and harmony and had an incredible appetite for making good things happen. David died suddenly on 13 March 2022. The village misses him terribly. The re-opened White Lion is a testament to a remarkable man. Broadwindsor Community Pub Ltd is determined to make it a success and honour his vision. Thank you for supporting the community pub team.

The pub is run by managers Kerry and Clive Dammert who are now very much part of the village. You will always find a warm welcome. Apart from delicious food in a cosy traditional pub, you will find lots of entertainment: Quiz, Live Music including a Folk Night, Theme Nights (See our Whats On Page).

Pop in to see us and celebrate all that’s good about country life. You’ll be glad you did.
